I never participated in organized sports when I was younger and lacked the confidence to participate as I got older. I was skinny-fat through high school and pretty unhealthy. As I got to college my poor eating and drinking habits led me to gain a bunch of weight. I began taking classes and “working out” at a local globo gym, where I had no idea what I was doing, to try to lose weight. I continued this for a few years without much progress. On February 4, 2012 a friend convinced me to try a class at her box, CrossFit Veracity. I showed up to class on a Saturday morning with a hangover. Bad idea! A 10 min AMRAP of air squats, single unders, farmers carries, and step ups (couldn’t bring myself to jump on the box) did me in. I thought was going to die, and I couldn’t wait to go back. For the first time in my life I saw what my body was capable of, which instilled a new confidence in me – not to mention I finally was able to lose all of that college weight! Within a year of joining I participated in a local competition, and my husband (then fiance) came to watch. After seeing what I could do, he had to join as well and completed intro the week before our wedding (maybe that should have been a clue it would become a huge part of our lives)! I learned, with help from some amazing coaches, that I could do so much more than I thought if I believed in myself. I decided that I wanted to be one of those coaches so I could do for others what they had done for me. In April of 2013 I got my L-1 and started the interning process. Two months later I received my CrossFit Kids certification. As a first grade teacher, coaching kids classes came naturally to me, and I am now proud to call myself the Head Kids Coach. I believe that kids should see the gym as a place to come have fun, and hopefully that’s what I make it! In August of 2015 I decided to expand upon my knowledge and became Eat To Perform nutrition certified. The basis of Eat to Perform is fueling your body for peak performance. We, as CrossFitters, are athletes and should eat like it! If you have any questions or would like to know more about ETP, feel free to email me, I’d be happy to help! If you are ready to get started you can do so Here!. Ultimately, my goal as a coach is to promote a positive attitude in both adults and children, and turn the words “I can’t” into “I can”. I hope that I can push people to do a little more than they thought they could so they can see their potential, both physically and mentally.
